What Does The Assessor Do?
The County Assessor is entrusted with locating all taxable property in the County and establishing its value. The Los Angeles County Assessor’s office is the largest in the country with 2.6 million assessments. The primary responsibilities of the County Assessor include locating all taxable property in the County and identifying ownership, establishing a taxable value for all property, completing an assessment roll with the assessed values of all property, and applying all legal exemptions.

Who is the LA County Assessor?
Jeffrey Prang is the current County Assessor. Voters elect the Assessor every four years. Jeffrey Prang was elected into office in 2014 and is currently serving his second term, which is due to end in 2022. Previously he was Assistant City Manager for the City of Pico Rivera, Senior Advisor to the Los Angeles County Sheriff, and Deputy to State Board of Equalization Chair John Chiang. He also served as a Councilmember and Mayor for the City of West Hollywood.
